Centro Vacacional IMSS Malintzi, Tlaxcala, Mexico
Begin at the IMSS vacation center (3,000m). Follow the main trail through pine and fir forest, passing several clearings. The trail becomes steeper above treeline, crossing open alpine grassland. Navigate the sandy volcanic slopes using the established switchbacks. The final section is a steep push through loose volcanic sand and rock to the crater rim and true summit. Start early to avoid afternoon storms.
