North Mt. Elbert Trailhead, Leadville, Colorado, USA
From the North Elbert trailhead (10,040 ft), follow the Colorado Trail briefly before branching onto the Mt. Elbert Trail. Climb through spruce forest to treeline, then follow the well-cairned route up the northeast ridge. The trail is non-technical but relentless, gaining elevation steadily. Pass a false summit before the final push to Colorado's highest point. The summit offers 360-degree views of the Sawatch Range.
