Start from Tuichán village (3,050m), accessible by 4WD from San Marcos. The trail climbs through cornfields and cloud forest before emerging into alpine grassland. Follow the ridge toward the summit, passing through stunted vegetation. The final section crosses volcanic rock and scree. The summit crater contains fumaroles indicating ongoing volcanic activity.
