Access from Sibinal village on the Guatemalan side. The trail climbs through coffee plantations and cloud forest, passing small farms. Above treeline, navigate grassy slopes and volcanic terrain. The border with Mexico crosses near the summit. The crater shows signs of volcanic activity with steam vents. A local guide is strongly recommended due to navigation challenges and safety. The descent can be made to either Guatemala or Mexico with proper arrangements.
