Wheeler Peak

The Williams Lake Trail starts at Taos Ski Valley (9,400 ft). Hike past Williams Lake to treeline, then follow the rocky trail up the steep headwall. The route joins the ridgeline and follows it north to the summit. An alternative, the Wheeler Peak Trail from the Columbine-Twining area, is longer but more gradual. Both routes are non-technical but at high altitude. The summit offers views across northern New Mexico into Colorado.
