Permits required - apply through Yushan National Park. Begin at Tataka Saddle (2,610m). The well-maintained trail passes through temperate and alpine vegetation zones. Stay overnight at Paiyun Lodge (3,402m) - reservations essential. Summit day starts pre-dawn, climbing steep switchbacks through rock and scree to the summit, the highest point in Northeast Asia. The trail has chains on exposed sections. Weather can change rapidly; be prepared for all conditions.
