Mystic Lake Trailhead, Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, Montana, USA
Montana's highpoint is one of the most difficult state summits. From Mystic Lake trailhead (7,840 ft), hike to Mystic Lake, then continue to Froze-to-Death Plateau. Traverse to the Granite Peak/Tempest Mountain saddle. The route climbs Class 4 rock with significant exposure, including a rappel and the infamous Snow Bridge crossing. Summit day involves 12+ hours of technical terrain. Experienced mountaineers only. Allow 3-4 days for the complete trip.
