Borah Peak Trailhead, Lost River Range, Idaho, USA
Begin at the trailhead (7,400 ft) on Birch Springs Road. The trail climbs steeply through sagebrush and forest to treeline. Above treeline, follow the obvious ridge toward the summit. The infamous Chickenout Ridge involves exposed Class 3-4 scrambling with significant drop-offs on both sides. A bridge crosses the deepest notch. Continue up the final rocky slopes to Idaho's highest point. Despite non-technical difficulty, the exposure intimidates many climbers. Start early to avoid afternoon storms.
