San Gerardo de Rivas, Chirripó National Park, Costa Rica
Permits and hut reservations required through SINAC. Start from San Gerardo de Rivas (1,350m). The trail climbs relentlessly through cloud forest, páramo, and alpine zones to Base Crestones hut (3,400m) - typically an overnight stay. Summit day follows the trail past Lago Chirripó to the rocky summit. The route is well-marked but very strenuous due to distance and elevation gain. Best during dry season (December-April). Porters available to help carry gear.
