Cold Springs Trailhead, Mt. Adams Wilderness, Washington, USA
From Cold Springs (5,600 ft), follow the South Climb route. Hike through forest to the Lunch Counter (9,400 ft), a common camp. The summit push ascends the broad south face, crossing snowfields (crampons/ice axe recommended most of year). Navigate around crevasses on the upper mountain. The false summit deceives many - continue across the summit plateau to the true highpoint. Cascades Volcano Pass required. Less technical than Rainier but still a serious glaciated peak.
