Nevado de Toluca Crater Parking, Mexico State, Mexico
Drive to the crater parking area (4,200m). The road leads directly into the ancient crater containing two lakes - the Sun and Moon lakes. For Pico del Fraile (true summit), follow the trail around the crater rim heading west. The route involves steep hiking and some scrambling over volcanic rock. The final approach crosses loose scree before the summit. The descent can follow the same route or complete the crater rim loop.
